Trike Nairn is a project that brings people together to ride tricycle rickshaws (trikes) around Nairn. Passengers, who have impaired mobility, sit at the front of the trike. The pilot, who does the pedalling, sits at the back. Passengers and pilots enjoy getting out in the fresh air while having a good natter, or just appreciating Nairn’s stunning scenery.

Want to join in?

We currently only have capacity to go for rides with passengers from Nairn's care homes. Sadly, this means that we cannot make private arrangements for individual rides and our precious trikes are not available for hire.

Donate

We are all volunteers, but our trikes are expensive and we need to buy tools and parts to keep them on the road. We have other costs too, including electricity to charge batteries and clothing to keep our passengers warm.

If you can help us by giving a donation, we would be very grateful. You can click the button below to make an online donation. Please add a message saying that the donation is for Trike Nairn.

You can also make a donation by cash or cheque - just speak to one of our pilots.

Welcome to Pearl!

We can now announce the arrival of our second trike. She is named Pearl, after the mother of one of our volunteers. She will allow us to expand our rides and make those rides more sociable.

Thank you to our very generous donors for allowing us to purchase this magnificent new machine:

Now that we have a second trike, we are needing more pilots. If you would like to join our team or would like to know more, please get in touch.

Wheels of Nairn

Yesterday, Trike Nairn attended Wheels of Nairn - Nairn's annual celebration of classic and modern vehicles. We brought along Sccoby-Doo, our very modern hybrid human-electric vehicle. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat or who came for a ride - it was great to meet you all!

Out and about this summer

It's been a busy summer of rides, with residents of six care homes across Nairn joining our pilots each week on trips to the beach and river. We have also popped up at local events, to spread the news about Trike Nairn more widely.

On 27 August, we joined Wee Adventure, Highland Cycle Ability Centre, Auldearn Bikes and Revolution Cycle Team Juniors at Riverside Park for an event promoting cycling and active travel. Today we took part in the parade on the final day of the Book and Arts Festival.

We'll be at Wheels of Nairn on 23 September. See you there!

Rides begin!

Trike Nairn has launched! On 6 June, residents and staff of Carolton House and Bruach House care homes joined members of the core Trike Nairn team in our first official rides. We travelled along the promenade and the river, enjoying the fine weather, seeing activities on the beach and spotting birds.

There has been a lot of preparation to get the project to this point, so it was a really big day for all involved. We would like to thank our funders, our friends at Green Hive and everyone who helped and believed in the project. Onwards and upwards!

Trike Nairn visits care homes

Over the last two weeks, Trike Nairn have taken their trike to five care homes across Nairn. Residents have had a chance to meet Scooby Doo (our trike) and find out about the project. They have also let us know where they would like to go on the rides.

It's been wonderful for the Trike Nairn team to meet our future passengers. We had lots of fun and can't wait for our pilots to be trained and the rides to begin!

Trike Nairn welcomes Scooby Doo

On 29 April Trike Nairn took delivery of our first trike. The trike, named Scooby Doo, was delivered to us by Keith Slater of Spokes for Folks, Inverness, who owned it before us.

Look out for us around Nairn as we train our pilots to ride the trike so we are ready to welcome our first passengers this summer.
