Why Volunteer with Us

Volunteering with Green Hive is a chance to make a real impact – not just on the environment, but in the heart of your community.

Whether you’re helping to transform waste materials into beautiful builds, sewing items with 100% recycled fabrics, piloting a Trike, restoring green spaces, or supporting us in other ways, your time and energy contributes directly to a more sustainable and connected Nairn.

Learn New Skills

But it’s not just about giving back – it’s also about learning new skills, meeting great people, and being part of something positive.

At Green Hive, volunteers are at the centre of everything we do, and we welcome all ages and backgrounds. Whether you have a few hours a month or want to get stuck in regularly, there’s a place for you in the Hive.

It’s hands-on, rewarding work that helps create a cleaner, greener place for everyone.

Help make a big social and environmental impact!

Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering at Green Hive's provides a unique opportunity to learn and develop practical skills in a supportive and inclusive environment, from operating tools and machinery to understanding the principles of the circular economy.

Volunteers play a crucial role in reducing waste by repurposing single-use plastics, textiles, and timber into beautiful, functional items, thereby directly contributing to environmental sustainability.

At Green Hive we foster a strong sense of community, allowing volunteers to build meaningful connections and collaborate on impactful projects. Moreover, volunteering promotes personal growth, boosts self-confidence, and enhances well-being by engaging in creative, hands-on activities that make a tangible difference in the local community.

Olusola, Workshop Trainee Staff Member

"Learning to trust myself and being in an environment that allows everyone to be themselves whilst learning how to work with different types of machinery safely and efficiently."

Cathy,  Workshop Volunteer

"Helping to reuse, recycle, and re-purpose and remove plastics from our oceans and create something useful and beautiful."

Gillian, Workshop Volunteer

"Really feeling like I am making a difference to our community and to the environment."

Ways to get involved

At our Community Workshop, you’ll learn how to turn waste materials into beautiful, sustainable creations like benches, tables, and more. It’s a great way to pick up new skills while contributing to a circular economy.

Love textiles? Join our Fantastic Fabric Volunteers to craft unique items for sale using 100% recycled fabric from our Zero Waste Fabric Store. It’s creative, social, and supports our mission to reduce textile waste.

If getting outdoors is more your thing, we regularly host litter picks, beach cleans, and help maintain local green spaces, including our community gardens and orchards.

And for those who enjoy being active, why not become a Trike Nairn Pilot? Help people with limited mobility experience the beauty of Nairn from the comfort of our accessible trike — it’s a rewarding way to give back while staying fit.
