About the Event
This is a free session, however we ask if you can support the charity with any donation it would be hugely apprecaited to help us with running costs.Â
What is grafting? Grafting an apple tree involves combining a scion with a rootstock. The scion is a young shoot or bud from a desired apple variety. While the rootstock is the the lower part of the tree that provides the root system.
We will be taken through the steps of how to graft by Emily and Caroline. If you wish to foster one of our newly grafted trees then you are welcome to take it home and care for it for a few years before it is ready to be planted in one of our orchard sites. We will provide knife safe gloves and grafting tools, if you wish to take the gloves home we ask for a small donation towards the cost. Â Teas and coffees will be provided, if you have specific catering requireemtns or any accessibility needs we should be made aware of please contact Caroline@greenhive.co.ukÂ
For those fo you who attended the last session on Fruit Tree Care you will know that Seaman's Hall can be a cold space, so please do dress appropriately. We will keep the hot drinks flowing and you will be active as you graft trees.Â
Growing Community Social - we are aware that many of you wish an oportunity to connect and chat about your projects and shared interests so we will open Seamans Hall kitchen space at 11 to allow for an hour of informal chats and discussions. Teas & Coffees will be available. Â
