Beryl’s Incredible 2024 Litter Picking Journey: Smashing Targets and Keeping Nairn Clean

At Green Hive, we’re constantly inspired by the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and community members. One such incredible individual is Beryl, whose efforts in 2024 have truly set the bar for environmental stewardship and community spirit.

At the beginning of the year, Beryl set herself an ambitious goal: collect 1,000 cans from the roadside verges of Nairn’s B roads. Fast forward a few months, and she has far exceeded that target, collecting an astounding 1,422 cans! And that’s not all – Beryl has also been regularly cleaning up Tradespark Woods, making a remarkable impact on the local environment.

CANS 2024: The Stats

Beryl’s dedication is best captured in the incredible stats she’s achieved:

“Canna” CAN Rides:

  • 47 rides covering a total of 812 km.

  • 1,252 cans collected, with her highest single-day collection totalling an impressive 71 cans.

Tradespark Wood Litter Collections:

  • 19 visits, spending a total of 24 hours and 25 minutes collecting and sorting litter.

  • Recycled materials collected include:

    • 50 glass bottles, washed and put into bottle banks.

    • 68 plastic bottles, washed and placed in her green recycling bin.

    • 170 cans added to her growing total.

All other rubbish was responsibly disposed of in litter bins at picnic sites or her black bin at home.

A True Champion for the Environment

Beryl’s efforts go beyond numbers. Her regular cleanups in Tradespark Woods ensure this beautiful area remains welcoming for wildlife and the community. She exemplifies the power of individual action in making a tangible difference to our local environment.

Why It Matters

Litter isn’t just unsightly; it’s a threat to wildlife, ecosystems, and even human health. By collecting cans, bottles, and other waste, Beryl prevents these materials from polluting our landscapes and ensures they’re recycled wherever possible. Her work inspires others to consider how they too can contribute to a cleaner, greener Nairn.

Join the Effort

Beryl’s story is a reminder of what’s possible when one person takes action. Imagine the collective impact if more of us joined in! Whether it’s picking up litter on your daily walk, reducing your waste, or volunteering with Green Hive, every effort counts.

Let’s give a huge round of applause to Beryl for her incredible achievements this year – she’s a true environmental hero! 🌟
