A massive thank you to the amazing Green Hive volunteers who worked together during our regular Fantastic Fabrics weekly Thursday classes to create an incredible 360 metres of vibrant bunting to lend to businesses on Nairn High Street to decorate their shop fronts during the Nairn Book & Arts Festival period ! To put that into perspective, that’s nearly enough to stretch around the entire Olympic running track at the Stade de France in Paris – an impressive accomplishment by any measure!
Embracing the Festival’s theme of ‘The Wild Side’ our volunteers dressed up in fantastic animal-themed fancy dress outfits to make their way up and down Nairn High Street on the 22nd August to deliver the bunting to local shops, with the welcome assistance of Cath from Trike Nairn.
If you were in town, you may have seen our animal-costumed team spreading joy and community spirit as they handed out the bunting! Whether you were a shop owner receiving it or a visitor enjoying the festive atmosphere, the wild energy of Green Hive’s efforts surely made the Nairn High Street extra special during this year’s festival.
Jan MacPherson, who leads Green Hive’s Zero Waste Fabrics Project, said:
‘ Each metre of bunting was carefully created by our volunteers using fabric entirely from our Zero Waste Fabric Store, demonstrating the power of community collaboration and creativity. We were thrilled to contribute to the festival in such a meaningful way, brightening up the High Street and adding a playful touch to the celebrations.”
A huge thank you again to all our volunteers for making this possible – your hard work truly brought the "wild side" to life!
We hope everyone enjoyed the bunting and the festival. Shortly our bunting will be collected back in, and it will then be available as a resource for community groups or individuals to hire for future events.
If you are interested to find out more about Zero Waste Fabric Store where donated fabric is available to purchase for a suggested donation of £5/kg, or if you would like to hire some bunting for an event, then please get in touch at nre@greenhive.co.uk, or contact Jan at jan@greenhive.co.uk.
On a regular basis we run a weekly drop in Create/Repair cafe at the Seaman’s Hall on Wednesdays between 2 and 4pm as a welcoming space where you can bring your own sewing projects to create and sew with like minded people, or you can come along to our Fantastic Fabrics group of volunteers which meets on a Thursday morning between 10 and 1pm to help with various fabric related projects.
